The Minister of Planning in charge of the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Zaidani, stressed during his meeting with an American delegation headed by the Chargé d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brent, “the importance of cooperation between Libya and the United States in the fields of renewable energy.”.
The Ministry of Planning said in a statement: “The meeting focused on opportunities for participation in the fields of technical studies and consulting services in renewable energy,” adding that “the meeting witnessed a discussion of the challenges and opportunities available to achieve progress in the field of reconstruction in the targeted areas (Derna, Murzuq, Sirte and southern Tripoli).”
The Minister stressed “the importance of building bridges of cooperation between Libya and the United States,” noting that “the meeting discussed ways to implement the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency prepared by the Ministry of Planning in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development and the relevant national authorities, and launched by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity at the end of 2023 as a national strategy that brought together all visions and trends in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.”
Al-Zaidani also stressed that “the strategy is a national requirement due to the importance of renewable energy in diversifying energy supply sources.”
In turn, Jeremy Brent stressed “the importance of the Ministry of Planning’s role in developing the national strategy for renewable energy and energy efficiency, and its role in strengthening governance and transparency systems when distributing development allocations. He also stressed the United States’ commitment to supporting programs that enhance economic and social development in all its dimensions.”
The US delegation included a number of budget experts from Washington, representatives of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, the US Department of State, and the US Agency for International Development. The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority and the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Holding Company.
