These discussions, which follow the bilateral meeting last Saturday in Cannes, were an opportunity to take a look at the various subjects of Moroccan-French cooperation, particularly in the field of crafts and cultural and creative industries, as well as the means to strengthen the protection of heritage, particularly in the face of attempts at appropriation by certain countries.
In a statement to MAP at the end of this interview, which took place in particular in the presence of the ambassador of His Majesty the King in Paris, Samira Sitaïl, Ms. Dati returned to the importance of the Agreement relating to co-production and cinematographic exchanges signed last Saturday in Cannes with Mr. Bensaid, noting that Morocco and France are committed to developing this dynamic which will be strengthened and amplified in the coming weeks.
The French minister, who stressed that Morocco demonstrates through its culture, its values which are hospitality, tolerance, respect but also creativity “that it has things to teach us”, said that it was agreed during this meeting that Moroccan artisans and craftspeople could come to France for immersion, in residence, in particular within the public operator Le Mobilier national”.
“We will continue this cooperation and we have decided to meet very soon in Morocco, because we have enough material to be able to amplify this dynamic,” said Ms. Dati, for whom “the partnership, the cooperation with Morocco, is infinitely about culture.”
In addition to cinema, discussions also focused on the museum sector and preventive archaeology, in which Morocco recently adopted a legal framework for the protection of heritage, said the French Minister of Culture.
For his part, Mr. Bensaid indicated that his trip today to Paris, which is part of his participation in the UNESCO African Cultural Week but also within the framework of the friendship uniting Morocco and France, also constitutes an opportunity to continue “to strengthen this partnership and this friendship”, through various conventions, agreements, the joint organization of conferences or through the presence of Moroccan heritage in France.
The Minister also welcomed Ms. Dati’s invitation to host Moroccan Mâalem in France as part of immersion trips with the aim of making their know-how better known, considering that the protection and preservation of heritage involves legislative and legal aspects, but also communication.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the promotion of the Moroccan gaming industry, with a view to benefiting from French expertise and trying to develop it jointly, he said, specifying that this market of 300 billion dollars in turnover worldwide, with an annual growth of 10%, constitutes an opportunity for Morocco in terms of job creation, development and growth for young people.
