According to information issued by the Provincial Meteorological Center, tropical storm Idalia is forecast to strengthen and it is expected to become a hurricane next Tuesday, August 29, over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
Favorable conditions for the occurrence of rains throughout the province are maintained, which can be strong and intense in some locations; During Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th the rainfall will be more numerous, says Raúl García García.
At 1:00 PM the center of the tropical storm was located near latitude 20.0 north, longitude 85.8 west. Idalia is moving north near 4 kilometers per hour (km/h) and faster northward motion is expected on Monday as maximum sustained winds remain near 65 km/h with stronger gusts, it notes.
The Provincial Meteorological Center in coordination with the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology keeps a close watch on the evolution of this meteorological situation.
