Speaking under agenda item 5 “Strengthening the Agency’s activities regarding nuclear science, technology and applications: Nuclear Technology Review 2024”, the diplomat reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to support the central role of the IAEA in providing technical assistance to Member States.

In this regard, he recalled, Morocco was able to develop, thanks to cooperation with the IAEA and partner Member States, a capacity recognized at the regional and international levels in terms of training and education in different areas. nuclear applications, noting that the Kingdom hosts one of seven international centers designated by the IAEA and based on research reactors, certified to carry out education and training activities and practical training.

“Determined to strengthen its partnership with the IAEA, Morocco continues to promote applications of nuclear technology in Africa and dedicates its regionally and internationally recognized training facilities to sharing knowledge and expertise with African Member States “, continued Mr. Farhane.

Over the past year, he noted, the Kingdom continued its actions aimed at “reinforcing the principled commitment to ambitious South-South cooperation with Africa to advance the uses peaceful use of nuclear techniques in the continent.

In this regard, Mr. Farhane noted that Morocco has shared training and workshops with 28 African countries in different areas of application of nuclear technology, including nutrition, water, agriculture, safety and security. security.

“24 African experts have received or are continuing training in Morocco in different nuclear techniques,” he detailed, adding that 13 Moroccan expert trainers have organized workshops and training in 10 African Member States on nuclear applications in the areas nutrition, water, agriculture, safety and security.

And to specify that Morocco maintains on an annual basis more than 18 training opportunities for African Member States, including doctorates, masters, scientific visits, internships and workshops, covering the areas of research reactors, radiopharmacy, medical physics, computer security, and radiological safety and security.

The diplomat also recalled that Morocco hosted two weeks ago, in Rabat, the annual meeting of national liaison officers and national coordinators (NLO) of the Regional Cooperation Agreement for Africa on research, Development and Training in Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA NC), which focused on strengthening the impact of the IAEA technical cooperation program in Africa, in order to promote socio-economic development -economic of the continent.

And to conclude that Morocco remains “firmly committed” to continuing to share, either in a bilateral framework, or in cooperation with the IAEA, its experience with African countries, with a view to promoting scientific research and the use nuclear applications, science and technology for peaceful purposes.
