Strengthening ties with Latin America and the Caribbean, a strategic choice in favor of regional integration (representative of the Chamber of Councilors in Parlatino)

Quoted in a press release from the legislative institution, Mr. Ouafa noted in a speech delivered on Friday before the members of the executive office of Parlatino that this choice led and supported by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was confirmed by the fruitful and historic visit of the Sovereign to the region in 2004, as well as by His solidarity and development diplomacy conducted in the African continent, the most recent incarnation of which is the Royal Initiative aimed at promoting access for the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

Highlighting the important roles played by regional unions in establishing dialogue, cooperation, solidarity and the exchange of experiences and good practices, he expressed the pride of all components of the House of Advisors regarding the development of relations between the Moroccan Parliament and the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, particularly since the signing of the agreement on the accession of the Moroccan Parliament as a permanent observer member to Parlatino, on April 27, 2018.

Furthermore, Mr. Ouafa noted that the choice of the August Name of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to baptize the Moroccan space at the headquarters of Parlatino “has a deep symbolic meaning of the solidity and antiquity of the relations that unite the Kingdom of Morocco with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, and testifies to the excellence of the relations that link the Moroccan Parliament to the national and regional parliaments of the region.”

For his part, the President of Parlatino, Rolando González Patricio, expressed during interviews with the representative of the Chamber of Councilors on the sidelines of an international symposium organized on September 12 and 13 in the Republic of Panama by Parlatino in partnership with the Latin American Development Bank, his recognition for the valuable support provided by the Moroccan legislative institution to the functioning of this important regional parliamentary organization.

Recalling the support provided by the House of Advisors for the creation of the “King Mohammed VI Library” at the headquarters of Parlatino, he praised the role played by Morocco in coordinating and facilitating exchanges and rapprochement between countries of the African, Arab groups and those of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mr. Patricio particularly appreciated the remarkable work carried out by the Chamber in the process of implementing the Constitutive Declaration of the Parliamentary Forum of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (AFROLAC)

This event, organized under the theme “Dialogues for Development”, was attended by the Ambassador of His Majesty the King to the Republic of Panama, Bouchra Boudchiche, the former President of the Republic of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, as well as the presidents of national and regional parliaments from the Latin America and Caribbean region.

During this conclave, the statement underlines, the representative of the Chamber of Advisors to the Parlatino held a series of meetings at the “King Mohammed VI Library” with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile, Karol Cariola, the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Honduras, Luis Orlando Redondo, as well as several representatives of the national parliaments members of the Parlatino, “who praised the active role played by the Moroccan Parliament in the exchange of expertise, which allows to benefit from the pioneering experiences of the Kingdom and to strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations.”
