Muscat (13 Sep 2022): Telecom Regulatory Authority has issued a warning against illegal postal services in Oman.

Officials said such postal service providers should immediately stop their operations or face strict action.

It is mandatory to obtain the necessary license from the Telecom Regulatory Authority for services including receiving, sorting and delivery of all items such as letters, small packages and parcels.

Postal services require a separate license even though these services are provided through offices, branches, apps and e-platforms of licensed companies. Individuals and companies wishing to engage in the activity of providing postal services must apply for a license from the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority.

The license will be granted by the authorities after careful consideration of the procedures and conditions laid down in the Act and regulations under Rule 38. A fine of not less than 1000 Riyals and not more than 100000 Riyals shall be imposed for engaging in such services without obtaining a license. A repeat offense will double the penalty.
