Riyadh: Inspections have been intensified in labor camps where foreign workers live in Saudi Arabia. Officials said 164 non-compliant labor camps in Jeddah were evacuated. The inspection is part of efforts to improve the quality of life of the people.

Inspections were conducted in the labor camps where foreign workers live in the city of Jeddah. While 798 field inspections were completed under the Jeddah Municipality, authorities closed down 164 camps for not fully complying with norms and conditions. Jeddah Mayor’s adviser Engineer Muhammad Al-Zahrani said that punitive measures including fines have been taken against the violators.

He called for an end to violations of the law in licensed labor camps to avoid penal action. He said that the inspections are being conducted as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Municipal, Rural and Housing Affairs to improve the quality of services provided to the people, improve the quality of life in cities and protect public health.

RIYADH: Inspections to detect violations of labor and residence laws in Saudi Arabia continue in force. 14,750 violators were arrested from different parts of the country within a week. The Ministry of Home Affairs officials arrested so many people during the field inspection conducted from August 25 to August 31 in collaboration with various units of the security forces and Jawas.

Of those arrested, 8,684 were found to have violated the country’s residency laws. 4,028 people were arrested for violating border rules. 2,038 people were also arrested for labor law violations. 225 people were caught trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally. 30 percent of them are natives of Yemen. 58 percent of those arrested are Ethiopians and 12 percent are from various other countries.
