It’s a strike that has made little noise… until now. SNCF indicates that train traffic could be “slightly disrupted” on its network on Wednesday due to a call for a strike. As with every social movement, the transport plan will be known to passengers the day before from 5 p.m., indicates the SNCF on son site Internet.

The origins of this strike lie in the opening, this Wednesday, within the railway company, of obligatory annual negotiations aimed at revising salaries. “If a thaw in salaries was obtained by the railway workers’ strike during salary negotiations in 2022, the increases were not sufficient to improve their living conditions”, justifies the CGT in calling for this call to strike , demanding in a press release a “return to the indexation of salaries on prices”.

The CGT points to “record profits”

“Railway workers are bearing the brunt of the explosion in the prices of energy, food products, telephone plans, Internet… while at the same time, SNCF management is posting record profits,” continues the CGT in a statement. The group achieved a turnover of 41.4 billion euros in 2022, an unprecedented level, for profits of 2.4 billion euros. The CGT wants “a general increase in wages of 12%”.

If passengers affected by the cancellation of their train have already received an email or SMS, SNCF will communicate a detailed transport plan on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
