British media outlet ‘The Standard’ reported on the 13th that Tottenham Hotspur’s captain Son Heung-min (32) said this about striker Dominic Solanke (27, England) joining the team in the English Premier League (EPL). Tottenham Hotspur announced on the 10th that they had signed a contract with Solanke until 2030.
Solanke scored four goals in the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Korea in 2017, leading England to its first victory in the tournament. Solanke, who won the Golden Ball at the time, emerged as a promising prospect for England. Solanke, who blossomed in the EPL Bournemouth last season, scored 19 goals in the league, tying for 4th in scoring. In December last year, he scored 6 goals and was selected as the EPL Player of the Month for the first time in Bournemouth’s history. Last season, Son Heung-min scored 17 goals in the league, ranking 8th in scoring.
Tottenham plans to assign Solanke to the position of striker, which has been lacking since Harry Kane (31) transferred to Bayern Munich (Germany) in August last year. Last season, Son Heung-min played at the front instead of his main position on the wing to fill Kane’s empty spot. Solanke’s transfer fee is known to be 65 million pounds (approximately 113.8 billion won), the highest in Tottenham’s history.
Solanke is a player who excels in link play and forward pressure. The American sports media outlet ‘The Athletic’ evaluated, “Solanke’s diligent movement can help wingers such as Son Heung-min to penetrate efficiently.” Solanke expressed his anticipation about playing with Son Heung-min. He said on the Tottenham website, “I want to achieve great results with my teammates, including Son Heung-min, who is a fantastic player.”
Kane, who played with Son Heung-min as part of the ‘Son-Ke combo’ at Tottenham, predicted that Solanke would settle in at Tottenham. Son Heung-min and Kane combined for 47 goals (Son Heung-min 24, Kane 23) in eight seasons, the most in EPL history. In an interview with British media outlet Sky Sports, Kane said, “Solanke’s strengths, such as his energy and speed, seem to fit well with Tottenham’s tactics.”
Tottenham Hotspur will begin the 2024-2025 EPL season with an away match against Leicester City on the 20th.
