Strombergs became the Olympic champion in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London. The Latvian also won two world championship titles in 2008 and 2010, and he also won the European Championship three times.

The Latvian athlete is the first in history to win Olympic gold in BMX cycling, as this sport was first included in the program of the Olympic Games in 2008. Also, Štrombergs twice became the best sportsman of the year in Latvia – in 2008 and 2012.

After winning the Beijing Olympics, Stromberg was awarded the Order of the Three Stars.

After the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, in which Stromberg stopped in the quarter-finals, he continued his career, but in 2018 he announced that he had decided to put an end to his sports career.

Every year since 1985, several representatives of BMX cycling have been inducted into the BMX Hall of Fame, including at least four athletes in various nominations.
