This Wednesday, February 28, in the area of ​​San Juan de Opoa, Copán, Honduras, a terrible accident occurred between two buses which claimed the lives of 17 people.

“The National Police of Honduras deeply regrets the tragic road accident that occurred in the area of ​​San Juan de Opoa, Copán, where two buses collided, resulting in the loss of several lives. In this moment of pain, we express our condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” mentioned the Honduran National Police.

The institution deployed resources to assist in the care of the injured. Initially, 10 radio patrols assigned to Copán were transferred to provide support in the transfer of the injured.

Likewise, the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) of the Directorate of Roads and Transportation (DNVT) has deployed its technicians to the scene to carry out the technical investigation and determine the dynamics of the events.

In this context, the Head of the Security Secretariat Dr. Gustavo Sanchez Velásquez has instructed that 25 medical officers and support personnel from the Police Health Directorate (DSP) are assisting the injured.

This is why SEDESOL has committed to providing coffins for the victims, a gesture of dignity in the midst of tragedy. Likewise, the Secretary of Security has announced its financial support to help families face the financial challenges that this situation entails,” said the Secretary of Security provides humanitarian support in the midst of the tragedy.

The Directorate of Interinstitutional and Community Affairs (DAIC) of the National Police is mobilizing its personnel to coordinate all the necessary actions in this humanitarian assistance operation. From logistics to emotional support, the objective is to provide comprehensive support to families affected by this devastating event.
