Shakib Al Hasan was supposed to return home from Canada after playing Global Twenty20. But he directly joined the party in Pakistan. Can Shakib do this in the future?
In the first press conference of the new Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Farooq Ahmed on Wednesday (August 21), the subject of Shakib inevitably came up several times. Farooq hinted at getting tougher on Shakib.
The newly-elected BCB president has said that he will watch whether Shakib can play from the outside like this, ‘Whether Shakib can play from the outside is another matter. Which we will look at very seriously.’
There was a lot of discussion about whether or not Shakib will be in the team for the Pakistan series. However, with the support of the board, he finally survived in the 16-member team. Now the board will discuss Shakib’s future, the Pakistan series will also be taken into consideration. However, chief selector Ashraf Hossain Lipu said that Shakib has told them about all the Test matches this year.
“Actually I said about Shakib, the board has some policies. I will discuss this with my directors, what should be the policy regarding Shakib Al Hasan.’
“I will discuss with the board what is the condition of Shakib now, whether he can continue in this condition or not. Of course it depends on what happens after the two Test matches. Then it will be a board policy matter.’
“The chief selector gave an interview which I liked very much. If he had been told by the board not to hire him, it would have been a matter of policy. He would have given the responsibility to the board, as it (the policy) was not there, Shakib has stepped in.’
There will be some more important decisions about the cricketers. There will be well-defined guidelines on what a cricketer can and cannot do during a series or tour.
“Some rules will be added regarding the players. What they can do, what they can’t do, I discussed informally before entering here today.’
“Especially during the tour, before and after the tour, there will be what the cricketers can and cannot do. If you have written, you may not advertise during the tour. Then no one will come to you for it. If it is clearly written, then it will be beneficial’ – President Farooq said.
