Flight LA800, operated by Latam Airlines and covering the Sydney – Auckland route, ended in an emergency after what the airline described as a “strong movement.”

This flight carried 263 passengers and nine command and cabin crew. The plane is a B787, registration CC-BGG.

Early this Monday, the airline reported that the plane landed at Auckland Airport at the scheduled time (4:26 p.m. local time). However, it also reported that the sudden movement led to 13 people being taken to Middlemore Hospital. 10 of these are passengers and three are crew. Local media report that, in total, 50 injured people were checked.

The airline also says that the causes that led to the incident are being investigated, that it regrets the inconvenience and inconvenience caused to its passengers, and that it “reiterates its commitment to safety as an untradeable value within the framework of its operational standards.”

As described by some passengers, what happened went beyond a “strong movement,” since the aircraft would have begun to fall to such an extent that some experienced weightlessness, which they described as “flying.”

We must remember the importance of obeying the captain’s instructions to use the seat belt when passing through or approaching areas of turbulence. However, what happened on flight LA800 is beyond normal, or any sudden movement that high cloud cover can generate.

Even so, some passengers have reported that the fall of the aircraft was sudden, without the captain having time to turn on the signal to adjust the seat belts. The movement caused the heads of many to collide with the top of the aircraft.

Therefore, it is of great interest to know the result of the investigation carried out by the airline to determine the cause, or causes, of this event.

The final destination of the flight, which is Santiago de Chile, was canceled and a new one was assigned, LA1130, which is scheduled for March 12 at eight p.m. (Auckland time).

“Latam is providing food and accommodation services to passengers affected by the suspension of the flight,” the airline concluded.
