Pollachi: Following the High Court order, the Highways Department has stopped the removal of encroachments by the ruling party.
In a welfare case, the Chennai High Court has ordered the removal of encroachments on Pollachi and surrounding highways that were obstructing traffic.
Following this, in the last few days, the Pollachi Divisional Highways Department, with the help of heavy vehicles, began removing the encroachments in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Meenakarai Road from Sinivasapuram with the help of police vehicles.
Yesterday, in the Palladam Highway area from the polling station to the New Scheme Road junction, de-occupation work was carried out in the presence of the authorities. In it, the occupation in front of the building where the DMK’s city and district offices are located was removed.
DMK activists surrounded the officers and demanded an immediate halt to the evacuation. Subsequently, the occupation was halted.
Following this, the police intervened and negotiated a settlement. Then the DMK winner said, ‘We have to give a forecast on Palakkad Road and Palladam Road and remove the encroachments. Suddenly the highway department removes the structures with a heavy vehicle, causing harm to the public. We are going to lodge a police complaint against the department officials in this regard, ‘they said.
