Dimitris Kokotas has been fighting for his life for the past five months. The singer suffered a heart attack and collapsed in front of his colleagues during rehearsals.
The performer has since been hospitalized in a High Dependency Unit (HDU), and it is noted that he has been hospitalized since March 28 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of “Georgios Gennimatas” Hospital.
Dimitris Kokotas is in a wakeful coma. This is the first stage of coma in which patients experience cloudiness and limited movement. The singer has a tracheostomy to avoid overloading his organs.
“We hope he will make it”
Speaking to Live News, the singer’s wife talked about the developments regarding his health condition.
“My husband is not exactly in sedation; he is in a wakeful coma. He has a tracheostomy so as not to overload his heart and other organs, but he can breathe on his own. He has simply been in the hospital for many months, and naturally, his body has weakened.”
She added: “Sometimes they take him off support and he breathes normally, but we are still waiting. We are all by his side, and I thank the people for their support and the love they’re showing to Dimitris. He is a fighter and will make it. We hope he will make it.”
