After the LRT’s investigation into the plots of Visvaldas Matijošaitis and his family, the Special Investigation Service found that the property restoration process in Kaunas has loopholes and creates opportunities for abuse. According to the service, there is not enough regulation in Kaunas municipality when forming plots on vacant state land. The LRT investigation found that the son of the mayor of Kaunas, council member Šarūnas Matijošaitis, purchased dozens of plots in the best locations in Kaunas right after they were returned to their former owners.
