BOLZANO. The topic of student accommodation was at the center of the meeting, in the town hall, between the mayor of Bolzano Renzo Caramaschi, the deputy mayor Stephan Konder, the new rector of the Free University of Bolzano Alex Weissensteiner and the general director of the university Günther Mathà.
Caramaschi and Konder have confirmed the forthcoming signing of two agreements for the creation of as many students in the production area: with the Habitat company for the property of viale Druso/Piazza Adriano for the realization of 210 beds and with the Demeter company for a property to be built in via Siemens/via Volta per 370 seats Bed.
These agreements, the municipal administrators recalled, provide for the prohibition on changing the intended use of buildings intended for student residences for at least 20 years. For the property in viale Druso, the objective is to have beds available starting from the next academic year 2025-’26, while for the property in via Siemens for the academic year 2026-’27.
“Considering similar structures already built or soon to be built by other public institutions, such as the Province, the overall housing needs for students of the city university can therefore be completely satisfied in the short and medium term”, underlined Caramaschi and Konder. Rector Weissensteiner underlined that “the meeting with the mayor and deputy mayor of Bolzano confirmed the shared desire to collaborate on concrete projects such as the reception and integration of the student community in the capital. We are convinced that constant dialogue between the institutions can contribute to the development of the socio-economic fabric of the city, with the aim of creating a positive and lasting impact not only for those who have chosen Bolzano as a university city, but also for the citizens”. “We have shared with the mayor and the deputy mayor – added Mathà – the data relating to our need for beds, both current and for the next three years. The constant dialogue with the municipal administration is paving the way for various solutions” .
