Students must have the opportunity to participate with their voice in making decisions about the functioning of the school in which they study. This was said by the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, at a meeting with students who took part in the competition “My opinion matters in a united Europe”, the department’s press center reported.

“Everyone’s voice matters, especially those who are currently in the education system. Because they should not only be enriched with knowledge, but also develop as individuals,” said Prof. Tsokov. According to him, the opinion, ideas and dreams of students are also a reflection of society. He pointed out that this is why the main priority is the changes in pre-school and school education, to make students not only knowledgeable, but also to have developed skills for life, as well as to make decisions.

“Our century is very dynamic, the information society is rapidly changing, and every day we are not only learning, but also building new skills. If you have these skills for life, if you know that your voice matters, you will be searching and together with participating people,” said Minister Tsokov. He thanked the students for their participation in the competition and their teachers for supporting them to develop as individuals.

The students Mariyana Andonova from the Vocational High School in Yambol, Leylya Simeonova from the “Tsanko Tserkovski” Primary School in Sredishte and Nazla Nikolaeva from the “Hristo Botev” Unified School in the Varna village of Tsonevo participated in the meeting. The girls shared about their interests, emphasizing that they have the support of their teachers to get involved in various initiatives and competitions.

At the meeting at the Ministry of Education and Science were the teachers Sibel Emilova and Turkyan Yumer, the chairman of the Center for Inter-Ethnic Tolerance and Dialogue “Amalipe” Diyan Kolev and 14-year-old Deyan Dimitrov.

Diyan Kolev noted that over 100 students participated in the contest with works on current topics. He noted that young people experience everything in our daily lives. “They have a desire to change the world, we have a new generation that can only fuel us,” said Kolev. He raised the issue of changing the way most student parliaments function, with students free to choose their own leaders by voting as they see fit.
