Study: Increasing numbers of deaths in mass shootings in the USA

by time news

According to a recent study, an average of 51 people are killed in mass shootings in the United States each year. The death toll from such crimes is at an all-time high, the authors of the US government-funded investigation said on Friday. Compared to the 51 deaths in the years 2015 to 2019, there were eight deaths per year in the 1970s.

The researchers examined a total of 172 “mass shootings” between 1966 and 2019 – acts in which more than four people were killed. More than half happened after the turn of the millennium, and a fifth between 2010 and 2019. Almost half of the perpetrators hinted at their plans in advance to family members, friends, the police or strangers.
