“It’s the Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Honolulu Beach Bikini”, oh no, it’s not about miniskirts at all. In my memory, however, the song is closely linked to miniskirts. The first mini skirt I really wanted was denim, I was maybe seven and I also really wanted a bikini. My mum then always just warbled the opening song, and to my great annoyance I got an outrageously boring one-piece bathing suit and was offended, at least for a short time.
But I got the mini skirt made of denim, in denim red. We thought it was hip at the time. From today’s point of view, a knee-length red denim skirt is probably rather stuffy, because by mini we really mean miniminimini, at least when you look at models like those from Miu Miu or Diesel. The latter is more reminiscent of a large belt.
With or without underwear
This trend is not new either, involuntarily images of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie appear in our mind’s eye, unfolding their tanned millionaire legs from overpriced cars and being photographed unfavorably – but to be honest, with so little fabric and so much legroom, we also know not so sure if this works better with or without underwear.

Some prefer a fresh breeze underneath – like our skirts themselves, which were whirled into the air for these pictures. Those who like it more dignified, possibly with black tights underneath, could make do with the black skirts by Karl Lagerfeld and Bottega Veneta. Nobody has to do without glitter, rhinestones and that certain something this summer, thanks to Dior. If all of this is far too small for you or if your underpants problem is too complicated, you can sit back and relax. There are also maxi dresses and long skirts. It may just be that you have to do without Paris Hilton paparazzi moments. In any case, I definitely won’t fit into my jeans model from back then – or it would be really very small. This year that would be okay, at least in terms of style.
