If chaos was avoided on Saturday and Sunday on the northern part of the RER B, closed for works, this Monday promises to be perilous. This is the first time that this very busy section will be closed on a working day. No RER will run all day from Gare du Nord to Mitry and between Paris-Gare du Nord and Aulnay-sous-Bois towards Roissy-Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, due to works.

In addition to the RER B north, it should be noted that the Transilien K line will not run between Paris and Mitry-Claye either, as well as the TER Paris-Laon (Aisne). In the south, during the same period, the RER B will not run between Fontaine-Michalon and Massy-Palaiseau (Essonne) as well as between Bourg-la-Reine and Robinson. Not to mention the RER A, closed between the stations of Nation and Val-de-Fontenay and Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val-de-Marne), and the RER C, at the stop between Austerlitz and Javel – Henri-Martin as well than between Massy-Palaiseau and Pont-de-Rungis.

Substitution buses if your trip is imperative

Concerning the interruption of RER B traffic in the north, alternatives are proposed with the establishment of substitute buses. Some 600 buses and 1,000 drivers are mobilized to provide this minimum service. But that might not be enough: they are able to transport “about 100,000 people” while on a Monday like August 14, some 200,000 travelers are likely to use the interrupted section of the RER.

In short: it is absolutely necessary that 100,000 travelers refrain from traveling to make way for “essential” travel, such as that of the health or security professions. The regional prefecture, the SNCF and Île-de-France Mobilités therefore hammer home a simple message: unless absolutely necessary, it is strongly advised to avoid traveling on Monday August 14. Employers had been asked to encourage teleworking or even to set up an RTT for the employees concerned.

The concern mainly concerns “front-line” professions, who cannot pose RTT or telecommute, such as health professionals. Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport, and Jean-Pierre Farandou, CEO of SNCF, have already planned to go to Gare du Nord on Monday morning to assess the situation.

To get to Paris airports

If the regulars of the line have made their arrangements, tourists wishing to go to Roissy airport could find themselves caught off guard. In addition to taxis and VTCs, they can use the Roissybus (departing from Opéra). A direct bus (the B5) also offers a direct route between Stade-de-France – Saint-Denis (RER D, which passes through Paris, at Gare de Lyon, Châtelet Les Halles and Gare du Nord stations) and Charles-de-France Airport. -Gaulle 2 TGV, in 50 minutes. Finally, good to know for locals who work at the airport, for example: the RER B will still continue to run on the Aulnay-sous-Bois – Roissy branch.

Flat rates are instituted for direct journeys by Parisian taxis between Paris and Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport (in both directions). It costs 55 euros between the airport and Paris right bank and 62 euros for Paris left bank.

Despite alternative transport, travel times are greatly increased. Thus, to get to Roissy airport from the Gare du Nord, it took around 1 hour 20 minutes on Saturday, compared to 31 minutes in normal times, according to the Transilien website.
