Subtel emphasized that “we are aware that this delay has affected the implementation of the law. And, in view of that, we want to be extremely clear on this matter: the previous work that has been carried out by various mayors has never been questioned.”
Following the controversy generated by the power cuts following last week’s rains, where strong winds blew trees onto power lines and poles, the delay in the implementation of the Chao Cables Law came to light.
It was learned that the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) withdrew from the Comptroller’s Office the regulations of the norm that was promulgated in 2019, which provoked the rejection of the mayors of the communes affected by the cuts.
Faced with this situation, Subtel stated that since the promulgation of the Chao Cables Law, “we began the implementation of working groups with various actors, including municipalities, which were extremely important in generating the first removal efforts, despite the complications of doing so without having regulations.”
“We are aware of the need to provide each municipality with more tools so that they can strengthen this task. For this reason, we have mandated our technical teams to resolve, as soon as possible, all those aspects that have slowed down the generation of this document, which will be resubmitted this week to the Comptroller General of the Republic.”
Subtel stressed that “we are aware that this delay has affected the operation of the law. And, in view of that, we want to be extremely clear on this matter: the previous work carried out by various mayors has never been questioned. And, on the contrary, we are taking all the necessary steps to give municipalities greater powers to eliminate so-called air debris from our cities.”
