Leaving his job, he started farming in 2016 and today his company ‘Marari Fresh’ supplies fresh vegetables to big supermarkets in Kerala. From this, Nishad earns around Rs 4 lakh a month. After studying law, Nishad worked in many companies for 15 years. After 2015, he decided to do something new. Nishad, along with his mother, started the work of re-building their kitchen garden. He cultivated chilli very well. After this Nishad decided to take farming seriously.

rented land

Due to lack of space at home, Nishad VR thought of renting land. One of his friends gave him one and a half acres of barren land. Nishad was the first to sow chilli seeds. The crop was good but he suffered losses due to fluctuating prices. On the advice of experienced farmers, he also started cultivating red spinach and papaya.

Created my brand in 2018

In 2018, Nishad launched the brand ‘Marari Fresh’. This brand supplies fresh vegetables to big supermarkets in Kerala like Lulu Hypermarket. Today Nishad does farming in 13.5 acres. He sells more than 130 tonnes of produce annually. From this he earns more than Rs 45 lakh. He cultivates crops like brinjal, okra and spinach. Marari Fresh is one of the few brands that did not stop production and sales even during the lockdown. His crop was very good that year. Nishad also used to do home delivery. This made more people aware of the brand.

Sales through app also

Nishad has also created an app for direct sales. He is planning to cultivate seasonal vegetables by taking land on rent in Munnar or Ooty. He has six permanent employees. He has another farm in Cherthala, where he, along with himself and two other workers, grows spinach, papaya and chilli. Nishad’s story shows how success can be achieved by combining modern farming and entrepreneurship.
