Had to leave school midway due to poverty
Born in Tiruthangal town of Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu, Chandramogan had to face challenges at an early age. Due to financial constraints, he had to leave school midway. It is another matter that Chandramogan did not give up. In 1970, 21-year-old Chandramogan rented a space of 250 square feet in Royapuram, Chennai. He started his ice cream company with three employees.
Decided to change the name of the company
Chandramogan had big dreams. In 1986, he changed the name of the company to Hatsun Agro Products. This rebranding proved to be a turning point for the company. Hatsun began producing milk products under popular brands like Arokya and Gomatha. It made inroads into the markets of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Goa. The launch of premium ice cream brand Ibaco a few years ago demonstrated Chandramogan’s ability to adapt to changing market trends and consumer preferences.
Today it is an empire worth crores of rupees
As Hatsun Agro’s business grew, so did the number of its employees. Today the company employs 8,000 people. This is a testimony to Chandramogan’s visionary leadership and business acumen. The company now has more than 1,000 specialized Arun Ice Cream parlors. They have a significant presence in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. According to media reports, Arun Ice Cream achieved a turnover of Rs 7,200 crore in 2023.
Work started with Rs 13,000
Chandramogan started his career with a job in a wood depot. His salary was only Rs 65 per month. However, he was not interested in the job. He wanted to start his own business. So he left the job after a year. Chandramogan started with just Rs 13,000 which he got from his family. To expand his business, he initially sold ice cream from handcarts in villages. In the initial days, he made rural areas his target. He used to go to villages through handcarts and sell ice cream.
