A queue to take a photo with the Eurovision finalist, singer from Narva Alika Milova and the big-screen premiere of a full-length film about her “Bridges to Liverpool” – this is what the opening of the Kinoff film festival in Narva looked like.

Among those who came to the premiere were many Narvitians: some personally know the 21-year-old singer, others have followed her career with interest since early childhood and remembered her bright performances at city festivals.

“I remember how she rocked out at biker festivals in Narva Castle. She was probably eleven years old then,” one of the fans who came to the opening told NG. “Probably, after Eurovision, she can already be called a star, but I liked her songs before: she has such a special voice and style of singing,” another added.

“We were rooting for her”
“I’ve known her since she was five years old, when she started singing with Yulia Kuzmina in “Magic Land.” Julia immediately predicted a great future for her, and even now she is very proud of her and follows her successes. We all really like the song she wrote for Eurovision, and, of course, during the competition we were rooting for her,” famous Narva pop singer Rafael Sharafetdinov told NG.

It is not surprising that in order to take a photo with Alika in front of the KinoFF banner, a whole line lined up at the Geneva cultural center.
KinoFF producer Yana Budkovskaya told NG that the organizers were pleased to see so many guests and a full auditorium at the premiere, but they also hoped for such great interest. That is why they chose the Geneva Cultural Center to open the festival in Narva, whose hall is more spacious than the halls in the Astri cinema, where other films from the festival program will be shown.

“We wanted the film that will be shown at the opening to have something to do with the city. This year the stars aligned in such a way that Eurovision took place, Alika was there, and a film was made about it. It seems to me that the film about how important it is to dream and love your profession fits the main theme of the current festival: love in all its forms. But in general, selecting festival films is a big team effort,” Yana Budkovskaya told the newspaper.

She also became the host of a creative evening with the participation of the director of this documentary, Mikhail Valtfogel, and Alika Milova herself. The film contains interesting footage from behind the scenes of Eurovision, interviews with Alika and her parents, archival videos where the future star, aged 9 to 11, confidently performs at concerts in Narva and comes up with the cover and title for her first album.

Should have been an outsider
“We met Alika when she was 14 years old, I was filming the Bravo show on the ETV+ channel and even then I said, even though I’m not a music producer, that I should sign a contract with Alika. We then called her “our Zemfira,” because she immediately felt like a big star. This concerned not only her vocal abilities, but also her character, her composure,” recalled Mikhail Valtfogel. Interestingly, one of the plot lines of the film was the tracking of bookmaker bets on the places that Alika Milova would take in the final of the competition: according to the bookmakers, the “girl from Estonia” was supposed to become an outsider, then she was predicted to take 21st place in the final, but in the end she took a very honorable eighth.

Alika herself said that the director and operator with a film camera, tracking her every step in Liverpool, where the last Eurovision competition was held, did not interfere with her, but, on the contrary, gave her moral support.

The young singer dreamed of getting to Eurovision since childhood. “At the age of eight I wrote a song for Junior Eurovision. But, apparently, it was not fate then, but the competition “Estonia is looking for a superstar” was for me that very moment when you find yourself in the right place at the right time,” said the singer.
As the film’s director told the newspaper, it is possible that “Bridges to Liverpool” will also be shown on ETV+ in the near future.
