The commander of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, announced today, Wednesday, “his approval of ceasefire talks in Sudan next month.”

In a post on the X platform, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said, “He welcomes US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s invitation to negotiations.”

“I announce our participation in the upcoming ceasefire talks on August 14, 2024 in Switzerland. I appreciate the efforts made by the United States, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland in organizing these important deliberations,” Dagalo said.

“We share with the international community the goal of achieving a comprehensive ceasefire throughout the country, facilitating humanitarian access to all those in need, and developing a robust monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure the implementation of any agreement reached,” he added.

Dagalo continued: “The extent of suffering and destruction in our country is great, and we renew our firm position, which came in the statement of the US Secretary of State today, which is the insistence on saving lives, stopping the fighting, and paving the way for a peaceful, negotiated political solution that returns the country to civilian rule and the path of democratic transformation.”

Hemeti added: “We are ready to deal with these talks constructively and we look forward to them constituting a major step towards peace, stability and the establishment of a new Sudanese state based on justice, equality and federal rule.”

It is noteworthy that the negotiations, announced by the United States, will include the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a host country, in addition to the African Union, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Nations as observers. The fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has been ongoing since mid-April 2023, resulting in the killing of tens of thousands and the displacement of more than 10 million people.
