The office of the head of government of Sudan, disbanded by the army, Abdullah Hamduk, on October 26, confirmed the return of the Prime Minister and his wife to the residence.

“Tonight, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk and his wife returned to their residence in Khartoum under heavy guard,” the office said in a statement on its Facebook page.

On the same day, Sky News Arabia, citing sources, reported that Abdallah Hamduk returned home just over a day after his arrest. It was noted that in connection with the return of Hamduk, security measures have been strengthened around the prime minister’s house to protect him.

Earlier on Tuesday, it became known that Hamduk was in the house of the commander-in-chief of the country’s Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burkhan, under reliable protection. Al-Burhan also clarified that all politicians detained by the military, against whom criminal charges have been brought forward, will soon be brought to justice, while the rest will be released. Al-Burhan also clarified that the ministers were detained because the military considered them a threat to the unity of Sudan.

The whereabouts of the other detained authorities are not known.

On October 25, the military opened fire on protesters who opposed the arrest of the prime minister. Prior to this, unmarked military officers arrested Hamduk and four other high-ranking ministers and officials from Khartoum state. Hamduk was later placed under house arrest. According to the Ministry of Culture and Information of the country, the detained were taken away by the servicemen in an unknown direction.

On the same day, Sudan’s health ministry said at least seven people were killed and 140 injured in protests in Sudan that erupted after Monday’s coup attempt. The department noted that the cause of death was gunshot wounds.

Earlier, on September 21, a coup attempt was made in Sudan. Several officers led by Major General Abd al-Baqi Bakrawi took control of the Sudanese army’s armored corps, blocking the road to the bridge next to the Sudanese parliament.

The spokesman for the Council on Sudanese Sovereignty, Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman, said on the same day that the coup attempt had been prevented and that the country’s authorities had taken control of the situation. The organizers and participants in the coup attempt were detained.
