On August 28, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, ruled out the possibility of negotiations with the paramilitary group.Quick Support Force” (RSF), while affirming that the army will strive for a decisive victory.

Addressing troops at Flamingo base in the Red Sea city of Port Sudan, General Burhan stressed that the military “does not make a deal with anyone who betrays the people of Sudan.”

General Burhan said that now is not the time for negotiations and that the army is “putting all its strength to put an end to the insurgency” of the RSF.

General Burhan insisted the army would accomplish this goal with a quick and decisive victory because the RSF was “totally exhausted.”

Mr. Burhan denied Sudanese army received help from abroad and said his departure from the capital Khartoum was thanks to a military campaign involving the air force and navy.

Earlier, on August 27, the head of the RSF, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, issued a statement expressing his readiness to cease fire and negotiate on the future of the country.

The statement came days after Sudanese army chief Burhan left the capital Khartoum for the first time since conflict between the army and the RSF broke out on April 15 this year.

In recent weeks, the army has resisted a fierce RSF attack on the armored corps base south of Khartoum.

Activists say the siege has caused civilian casualties, cut electricity and water, and made it difficult to evacuate people. The two sides also fought fiercely for control of the city of Nyala in South Darfur state.

According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, clashes between the army and the RSF in the capital Khartoum and several other areas have left more than 3,000 people dead and more than 6,000 injured.

Meanwhile, according to United Nations statistics, more than 4 million Sudanese have been displaced from their homes, of which 3.2 million are internally displaced and nearly 900,000 are displaced to the Republic of Chad, Egypt, South Sudan and other countries.
