Fire Breaks Out at Popular Clothing Store in Kumbakonam
Kumbakonam – A sudden fire broke out at the front of a popular clothing store in Kumbakonam on Sunday night, causing tension among the people present. The fire started at the Thirunarayanapuram Road private clothing store, which employs around 500 workers.
The incident occurred at around 7 o’clock in the evening when the shop was filled with more customers than usual. This was due to the announcement of a special discount on Audi clothing, coupled with Sunday being a holiday. It was during this peak moment that smoke suddenly appeared in the front part of the shop, which was decorated with plastic and other flammable items. The fire quickly spread throughout the building.
Upon noticing the smoke, the public promptly informed the shop staff. In response to the developing crisis, people inside the store quickly evacuated, moving to safety through the back. The entire facade of the building was soon engulfed in flames, reaching a height of approximately 50 feet.
As a precautionary measure, individuals in nearby government transport corporations, private hospitals, shopping malls, and residences opposite the store also fled the area. The fire department from Kumbakonam and Thiruvidaimaruduar were immediately called to the scene. With the use of three fire tenders and a water spray, the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. The massive flames and the dense smoke, which could be seen from a distance of three kilometers, caused traffic disruption in the vicinity for over an hour.
In a preliminary investigation conducted by the Kumbakonam East Police Station, it was revealed that the fire may have been triggered by inflammable materials and electrical appliances present in the shop. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the quick actions of the public and employees ensured prompt evacuation. The clothing store, however, suffered significant damage due to the flames. Local authorities are now assessing the situation to provide support and aid to the affected business.
