The fulfillment of the cane planting plan in the current cold season, the production of other agricultural foods and repairs in the industry, agricultural machinery and transportation with a view to the next harvest, occupy the workers of the Agroindustrial Sugar Company (EAA) November 30.

The entity proposed to plant some 3595.0 hectares (ha) of the grass in 2023; of them 1562.4 in the spring season and 2032.6 in the cold season. After achieving only 29 percent of what was planned in the first season, it was necessary to readjust the figure for the second, about 1296.8 hectares. They are currently working to fulfill it and guarantee next year’s seed.

Particularly in September, the delay in the task was due to the non-availability of sufficient land ready at the beginning of the month, and at the end, to rains and excess humidity. Added to this is the labor force deficit in most of the production bases.

Meanwhile, in the industry, despite the limitations of material and financial resources, repairs are carried out in the areas of the tilter, mills, power plant, boiler house and steam plant.

In the latter, “the fundamental problem is centered on the situation of the evaporative beam of boiler No.1 due to financing problems, therefore, it becomes the critical route of the work,” company executives explained to the vice president of the República, Salvador Valdés Mesa, during a recent visit to the plant.

Likewise, the sugar growers work on preparing the cutting machinery and equipment for transporting the cane from the fields to the mill.

In correspondence with the estimates of June 30, the 30 de Noviembre mill plans to grind 126,922.1 tons

According to calculations by specialists, the upcoming contest in the San Cristobal central will last 35 days, with a start date of January 15, 2024 and an end date of February 18.

During his recent visit to the site, Valdés Mesa insisted on working with quality in the preparation of the harvest, making estimates as objective as possible of agricultural and industrial yields, and complying with the agreed date to avoid a delayed start in compliance with the sugar production plan, as in previous campaigns.

The essential objective of the next harvest in the province is to guarantee sugar for the basic basket of Artemisa and Pinar del Río.
