Sugar production reaches 3.52 crore tonnes – Dinamani

The National Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation (NFCSFL) has said that the country’s sugar production has reached a record high of 3.52 crore tonnes till May 30 in the current market season.

This is further stated in the Federation Statistics:

During the market season 2021-2022 from October to September, the country’s sugar production increased by 15 percent over the previous year until May 30. Accordingly, its production increased from 3.06 crore tonnes to a record 3.52 crore tonnes.

Sugar production during the last marketing season of 2020-21 was only 3.11 crore tonnes. In this context, it is noteworthy that sugar production in the first 8 months of the current season surpassed that of the entire full market season. It is expected to produce another 4-5 tonnes of sugar by the end of the current marketing season.

India is the second largest exporter of sugar in the world.

Maharashtra, the world’s largest producer of sugar, has increased its sugar production from 1.06 crore tonnes to 1.36 crore tonnes as on May 30.

In Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, production fell to 1.02 crore tonnes from 1.10 crore tonnes.

According to NFCSFL, sugar production in Karnataka has increased from 42.50 lakh tonnes to 59.20 lakh tonnes.
