Coimbatore: “Farmers should know about new technologies to increase sugarcane production,” State Sugar Department Director Harmandar Singh said. On behalf of the Coimbatore Sugarcane Breeding Institute, a part of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, a ceremony for sugarcane farmers was held at the company’s premises. In a seminar on modern mechanization, State Sugar Department Director Harmandar Singh said through video presentation, “Various new technologies have come in to make profit in sugarcane farming. Cost of sugarcane production in other states is lower. Likewise, steps have been taken to reduce the cost of production in Tamil Nadu. Various new machines have come up for lack of manpower and water management. Farmers should know new technologies,” he said. Sugarcane research expert Nagendran explained to the farmers about modern technologies and mechanization in sugarcane cultivation. Awards were given to farmers who implemented innovative schemes. Earlier, Putra Pratap, Chief Scientist, Sugarcane Breeding Institute welcomed. Director Hemaprabha presided.
