The Congress has chosen Sukhwinder Singh Sukku as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
The Congress won the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and returned to power. The party won 40 of the total 68 constituencies. BJP lost power and got 25 seats. A meeting of MLAs was held yesterday evening to choose the new Chief Minister. Congress senior observers Rajeev Shukla, Bhupender Hooda and Bhupesh Bagal participated in the meeting.
The Chief Minister was not decided on Friday as there was fierce competition. Meanwhile, the Congress leadership has decided to appoint Sukhwinder Singh Sukku as the Chief Minister. Supporters of Himachal Pradesh Congress president Pradeepa Singh protested against the appointment of Sukhwinder Singh Sukku.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukku, 58, is a third term MLA from Nadan in Hamirpur district. A long-time lawyer, Sukku joined the party while still a student. In 2000, she was selected as the Congress Youth Leader. Although not from Shimla, he has twice won local body elections there. Appointed state Congress secretary in 2008, he relinquished his party post to Kuldeep Rathore in 2019 to avoid infighting.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to elect Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and again as the Chief Minister. Subsequently, Bhupendra Patel is going to take office again as the Chief Minister on Monday. Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will also participate in the swearing-in ceremony.
