The press secretary of the President, Erbol Sultanbaev, gave an explanation about the 84 kg of gold seized during illegal transportation to Kyrgyzstan.

In his comments to “Kabar” national agency, he said that more than 100 companies in the country mine gold, and most of them take ore or concentrates to China or Kazakhstan, process them, separate the gold and bring it back to Kyrgyzstan.

“We don’t want to hide 84 kg of gold here. We come to the opinion that they thought to hide from taxes. Because when they bring in the gold, they register it with the tax authorities and pay 60 mln. He had to pay taxes around som. They were caught bringing it in without paying. Some people are misrepresenting this story as “they were caught while mining gold”, but it is not so. Even when ore and concentrates are being extracted, how many tons are being extracted is monitored. The approximate amount of gold that should come out of that composition will also be passed through the laboratory, and then they will take it away. The gold will come back to us, the tax will be paid, and then it can be taken out again,” said Sultanbaev.

According to his words, the president signed a decree banning the export of ore and concentrates containing gold from Kyrgyzstan from May 1. However, the decree was extended until December 31 before the construction of the plant that operated it was completed.

On April 17, the State Committee on National Security (SNC) reported that about 84 kg of illegally transported gold was seized at the “Ak-Jol” checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border. The institution reported that gold valued at more than 300 million soms was being taken to one of the largest gold mining companies in Chui region. However, the name of the company was not announced.

The public is discussing who owns 84 kg of gold and who is involved in its illegal import. (BTo)
