The leader of Sumar, Yolanda Diazhas advocated for promote retirement before age 65 for groups such as taxi professionals, construction sector categories such as bricklayers or cleaning or household employees.

In turn, it has expressed its commitment to the taxi sector so that they have less workday, catalog their occupational diseases to recognize them and enhance the prevention of their occupational risks.

After meeting with associations such as the Professional Taxi Federation or Elite Taxi, He has assessed before the press the agreement reached yesterday in the Council of Ministers to protect the sector as a public service, establish limits on VTC licenses and promote compliance with the rest regime.

“Spain is better today because we have eliminated legal uncertainties for the taxi (…) We have to improve working and living conditions of the 100,000 families that depend on it”, he pointed out to defend that they also have to “work less to maintain their income”.

In turn, the candidate for the Presidency of the Government has expressed her commitment to the taxi, which needs a “specific look at the prevention of occupational hazards and in the catalog of occupational diseases”.

On the other hand, he has advocated the idea that this professional sector should also enjoy a earlier retirement, like other professions such as construction.

“It is not fair that a person who works in a taxi, or who works on a scaffold or in cleaning (…) work at age 65 or at age 67. This is not fair. There are labor groups in our country that have to go home first to be able to live life,” Díaz detailed.

Productive economy in the face of unfair competition

On the other hand, he has revealed that Sumar is in favor “of a productive economy that defends the country”, compared to others “based on unfair competition formulas or absolute fiscal injustices” that they do not share.

Also, he has highlighted that “what is at stake” is the future of “a public sector that is very small and where there is ample room for competition for rights to decrease with the VTC”.

As explained by the candidacy in a statement, the increase in this type of licenses is unprotecting three sectors at the same time: the taxi and their families, who have seen how the “rules of the game have been changed”; to that of the workers themselves Uber, Cabify o Bolt, that they work “in worse conditions while people who are not dedicated to the world of cars get richer”; and finally the citizenship itself, since this model affects all the ways of moving in cities.

Faced with this, Díaz has appealed to the “Room for maneuver” that the autonomous communities and town halls have to “choose the path of public service protection” by applying the decree-law approved by the Government and that allows “avoiding a new avalanche of VTC licenses”.

This state regulation modifies the Land Transport Regulation Law (LOTT) in order to include new requirements based on vehicle ownership, environmental or traffic congestion criteria for companies and individuals who want to obtain a VTC authorization.
