The Rs 2200 crore scam in Assam was unearthed when the mastermind of the fraud, Bishal Phukan, was arrested by the police from his residence in Dibrugarh. After Phukan’s arrest, Sumi Bora came under the police radar. The police have claimed that Bishal Phukan used Sumi Bora’s network in the Assamese film industry to lure clients through online trading on the pretext of giving them high returns.
Seven more days of custody sought
Actress Sumi Bora and her husband were absconding since Phukan’s arrest. After which they surrendered before the police last week. Sumi Bora’s five-day police custody ended on Tuesday. She was produced in court on Wednesday. The police will demand her custody for the next seven days.
Husband Tariq Bora and his brother-in-law are under pressure
During the interrogation, Sumi Bora is either crying or avoiding questions in other ways. The actress complained several times that she was not feeling well. However, she was declared fit during the medical examination. Meanwhile, the police have got some information during the interrogation of the actress’s husband Tariq Bora and her brother Amlan Bora. Both of them were arrested by the local police last week.
Accused of destroying evidence
According to an official, ‘Tariq and Amlan gave information to the investigating team about two policemen Shobhanjyoti Kurmi and Chandan Nath. These policemen had allegedly helped Sumi Bora and her husband to escape after the scam came to light. Kurmi and Nath had also helped them in destroying some evidence of this online trading scam.’
Who is Sumi Bora?
Sumi Bora was born on 9 August 1993 in Banipur, Dibrugarh. She has made a name for herself as a versatile personality in the cultural landscape of Assam. Her journey began with a deep passion for traditional Assamese dance forms like Bihu and Sattriya. At the young age of three, she became a disciple of Guru Ruplekha Borbora Das at Chaulkhowa Music College. It was here that her exposure to performing arts began.
Sumi Bohra was a dance teacher
Sumi Bohra received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Sattriya dance from Dibrugarh University. Sumi then did her Ph.D. and M.Phil. She worked as a dance teacher for about 9 years. During this time she taught at Chaukhua Music College and many other institutions including Shiksha Valley School and Nurture International School in Dibrugarh.
Opened his own dance academy
In 2014, Sumi Bora opened her own dance academy Sumi Nrityalaya. Parallel to her academic and teaching career, Sumi Bora made a prominent place for herself in the digital sphere. She started uploading her dance videos on YouTube. Soon she became a hit dancer in Assamese music. Her popular songs like Loriyoli and Serek Serek caught the attention of many. From here the doors of Assamese music industry opened for Sumi.
