A tribute to Italian cinema is organized by the Vice-Mayor of Culture of the Municipality of Ioannito and the Italian Educational Institute of Athens, from Monday August 12th to Monday September 2nd.
On the 100th anniversary of the birth of Marcello Mastroianni, on Monday, August 12, at 9 pm, in the courtyard of the Cultural Center “D. Hatzis”, Federico Fellini’s film “Sweet Life” (La dolce vita, 2023, Duration: 174΄) will be screened. Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimé, Yvonne Fourno, Anita Ekberg
Marcello Mastroianni made his film debut as an extra in the 1939 film Marionettes, directed by Carmine Gallone. She first appeared on the stage with the play “Angelica”, in 1948, where she co-starred with Giulietta Mazina, Federico Fellini’s wife. From 1949 to 1956, Mastroianni played mainly small roles in works by Dino Rizzi, Mario Monicelli and others. But he reached the peak of his career with the films “White Nights” (1957) by Luchino Visconti, “The Thief of the Thief” (1958) by Mario Monicelli and “Divorce à la Italica” (1961) by Pietro Germi, which make him as one of Italy’s first comedians.
The film “La Dolce Vita” (1960) gave him worldwide fame, while in total, he appeared in more than 150 projects and received three nominations for the Best Actor Oscar.
