Ooty: As the summer heat has increased in the plains, power generation has been increased in two power stations in the Nilgiris.

In the Nilgiris, there are 13 power stations under the Gunda, Baikara Hydroelectric Project. A total of 32 units can generate 833.65 MW of electricity. Till date, 550 MW has been generated. 80 percent of the electricity generated here is distributed to outlying districts.

Currently, as the summer heat is increasing day by day in the plains, the electricity demand has also increased more than usual. Due to this, the Electricity Board has taken steps to increase the peak power demand in the morning and evening at Kethai and Parali power stations.

According to this, ‘Kethi Power Station, 5 Division, Parali Power Station, 3 Division’, in total, in 8 divisions, a maximum of 355 MW power generation is going on, 400 to 500 MW power has been distributed to districts including Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode so far. 600 MW electricity is being distributed to three districts since yesterday. In the Nilgiris, only 70 MW is utilized.

Kunta Supervising Executive Engineer Senthilrajan said, “Due to the summer heat in the plains, the electricity demand has increased. In order to fulfill it, the peak power demand has been gradually increased in the morning and evening hours at Kethi and Parli power stations,” he said.
