Mexico City is preparing to experience a vibrant and economically prosperous summer.
The Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDECO) estimates that cultural and recreational activities typical of the season, such as vacations, graduations and the end of the school year, will generate a unprecedented economic impact of 13,663 million pesos.
This figure represents a 6.1 percent increase compared to summer 2023which means an additional 784 million pesos that will boost the economic recovery of the capital.
“Summer is one of the periods of greatest consumption in Mexico City, along with the December holidays,” said the head of SEDECO, Fadlala Akabani Hneide.
“This year, the economic impact will be historic, benefiting 58,578 economic units of all sizes in sectors such as commerce, tourism and gastronomy.”

- Hotels
- Party rooms
- Gift shops
- Boutiques
- Nightclubs
- Aquatic centers
Impact on employment
It is estimated that the economic boom of the summer will generate benefits for around 426 thousand people who work in the various establishments that will benefit.
This figure reinforces the solid economic recovery that Mexico City is experiencing, which has accumulated a total of 42,255 million pesos in economic benefits so far in 2024 derived from the celebration of different festivities.
A call for local consumption
SEDECO calls on citizens to make their purchases in established places, preferably in local or neighborhood businesses.
This responsible action contributes to strengthening the internal economy of Mexico City and directly benefits the families that depend on these activities.
