(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 6 – The 2024 summer sales are starting all over Italy: according to a survey conducted by Ipsos for Fismo, the association of Confesercenti fashion stores, around 9 million Italians will take advantage of the end-of-season sales this weekend to buy at bargain prices, for an average estimated cost of around 100 euros per person. A turnover that will reach one billion euros over the weekend and 3.5 billion over the entire period. Retailers expect sales to be more or less in line with last year. 55% of consumers intend to make a purchase by the end of the sales, in August. Those waiting for the sales are mainly those living in the southern regions and the islands (63% interested, in the northern regions it is 49%) and young people under 34 (59% interested). Physical retail remains at the top of the list of preferences: 69% of those interviewed said they would also buy from a classic multi-brand store, while 38% would go to a single-brand physical business. Only 36% would also buy from a multi-brand e-commerce platform, while 18% would buy directly from the manufacturer’s website. Confesercenti reports that the network of stores is shrinking: compared to 2019, the number of businesses selling clothing, footwear and accessories has decreased by 4,591 units, at a rate of two stores disappearing per day. Even in these summer sales, footwear is the most sought-after fashion product, indicated by 61% of those interviewed. They are followed – with 57% of preferences – by t-shirts and tops, especially polo shirts and sports shirts, while for women the trend towards looking for sweaters, blouses and tops in summer fabrics, especially linen but also silk, with a rediscovery of floral prints, is gaining ground.
