Summer satisfies restaurants and beaches, not cities of art – First Floor

by time news

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 28 – A satisfying summer for more than half of bars, restaurants and bathing establishments. Remaining in the white zone in July and August, the regions benefited from the “free field” which allowed the arrival of tourists, including foreigners, and a recovery in services, which in turn could have given a good boost to GDP. Over 60% of tourism demand this year was directed to the sea (more than in 2020). A Fipe-Confcommercio survey reveals a positive July: six out of ten replied that it went very or quite well; for one in four it was at the levels of 2020 (when, however, in the third quarter the GDP made + 16.1%) while just under 20% rejected it, including Venice, Verona, the Belluno mountains and the Abruzzo hinterland. August is following the trail: 63% are satisfied; 12.5%, on the other hand, give a negative opinion and it is mostly the cities of art such as Rome, Florence and Venice. In July it went “very well” for the operators of the Romagna and Ligurian coasts, northern Sardinia and the Adriatic / Abruzzese coasts; they say it went “well” in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Iesolo, Lake Garda, Salento, South Sardinia, the Sorrento / Amalfi coast, the Sicilian islands, the Lazio coast, the mountains in Trentino. Trend as in July 2020 in Rome, Naples, Florence, Valle d’Aosta and Valtellina. August “very positive” for 15.6% of the sample of restaurateurs and managers of bars and beaches, with “excellent performance” on the Ligurian and Adriatic coasts, in Salento and eastern Sicily. Trend as in 2020 for 25% of the sample consulted in particular in the north of Sicily, south of Sardinia, the Lazio coast and the Belluno mountains. In the rest of the main tourist destinations (beach, mountain and lake) a “positive” rating for 46.9% of managers. Foreign tourism has returned, especially in seaside resorts and lakes, explains Fipe-Confcommercio, while the cities of art are suffering from a still modest recovery. On how much “fault” the Green pass has in curbing tourism, the sample is divided more or less in half, on the basis of the availability or not of open spaces. The Italian Balneari Syndicate which is a member of Fipe-Confcommercio and which represents 30,000 companies says that the summer of 2021 started subdued but then saw an acceleration in August. There are still few tourists from overseas and overseas, while there has been “the return of the Germans and the French, with benefits for all regions”. (HANDLE).
