Public Transport Boosted in Bolzano for Summer Tourism
To alleviate traffic congestion and encourage tourists to ditch their cars, the Province of Bolzano has significantly increased public transport options for the summer season. This year, bus routes have been extended by over 300,000 kilometers, with a 8.3% increase in summer trips since 2022.
Encouraging Car-Free Excursions
More buses are running on routes like the Sciliar Plateau and new paths have been added, making car-free excursions even more enjoyable. The presence of a full bus on the road effectively removes 25 private cars from the road.
New Guest Card for Digital Public Transport
To further incentivize the use of public transport, a new digital Guest Card has been introduced. Valid throughout most of the province, the card allows tourists to travel on both buses and trains. For each overnight stay, tourist accommodation providers contribute 60 cents for each guest to the public transport system.
Improved Punctuality and Efficiency
The Guest Card offers several advantages. By eliminating the need for ticket purchases, boarding becomes faster and more efficient. This allows buses and trains to run more punctually and reliably for both tourists and residents.
Data-Driven Public Transport Optimization
The Guest Card will be fully digital by the end of the year. This will allow the province to collect real-time data, which will be used to further optimize public transport services. The aim is to provide more buses and trips based on actual demand, ensuring that both tourists and residents benefit from a more efficient and responsive public transport system.
