Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) will hold a special festival at Suncheon Daehak-ro on the 9th. The 2024 Suncheon Daehakro Festival, held under the theme of “Go Go Go Jang Returns,” is an event that contains various contents and the passion of young people, and is expected to provide an unforgettable day to Suncheon citizens and visitors.
This festival, which is held under the concept of “Fight, win, and find the receptionist-alley leader,” provides participants with the opportunity to show off their skills in various fields, such as the Seller Diffie leader drawing and Iguro’s main character is Nayana. Through this, we plan to provide a fun time where everyone can become the main character.
In addition, a variety of experience programs are operated, including youth busking performances, street karaoke, firefighting necut certification in conjunction with 119 Firefighting Day, arm wrestling competitions, worry doll making, pet caricatures, and character fights.
A city official said, “This festival is an event planned to make Suncheon Daehakro a vibrant cultural space again,” and added, “We hope that young people and citizens will gather together, share and enjoy culture, and enjoy the charm of Suncheon Daehakro.”
Meanwhile, Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 6th that it has started operating the ‘Autumn Light Tour’, a special autumn course for Suncheon City Tour.
This tour tours ‘Seonamsa Temple’, a famous spot for fall foliage, and ‘Waon Beach’, famous for its sunset. It provides a special travel course that allows you to enjoy the fall foliage and sunset at the same time, which are essential in fall travel.
Since the first day of operation, various tourists including families, solo travelers, and friends from all over the country have participated and received a great response.
One participant said, “I could feel the tranquility of Seonamsa Temple, a thousand-year-old temple, and I felt healed throughout the walk with the scenery of changing autumn leaves, fallen leaves on the wide road, and the sound of water in the valley.”
Another participant said, “Waiting for the sunset and basking in the glow was like a gift to end the day happily. “It was better to be able to travel more comfortably on the city tour bus,” he said.
A city official said, “We have prepared a special trip for fall, so we hope many tourists will apply and have a pleasant trip to Suncheon.”
The ‘Autumn Light Tour’ runs a total of 4 times every Wednesday in November. Interview between Time.news Editor and Festival Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re thrilled to engage with Dr. Jiyeon Park, a cultural events expert and local guide who has been instrumental in promoting community festivals. Dr. Park, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Jiyeon Park (DJP): Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to discuss the upcoming Suncheon Daehak-ro Festival.
TNE: The festival, themed “Go Go Go Jang Returns,” is set to take place on the 9th. What excites you most about this event?
DJP: I’m particularly excited about the youthful energy it brings! The festival encourages young people to showcase their talents—whether it be through performances, artwork, or competitive activities. It’s a wonderful way to engage the community and create a shared cultural experience.
TNE: It appears that this year’s festival aims to transform Suncheon Daehak-ro back into a vibrant cultural space. How does this align with the goals of the local government?
DJP: Absolutely! The initiative reflects the city’s commitment to revitalization and cultural dynamism. Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu’s vision is to gather residents and visitors alike in celebration, fostering community ties and making Suncheon a lively spot for artistic expression.
TNE: The festival is not just entertainment; it also includes unique activities like youth busking and street karaoke. Why do you think involving diverse activities is crucial?
DJP: Diverse activities ensure that there’s something for everyone, which is essential for broader participation. Busking, street karaoke, and even the arm wrestling competitions you mentioned create an inclusive atmosphere where individuals can express themselves freely. It’s about building a community where everyone feels like a main character.
TNE: And there’s an emphasis on learning and certification with events like the firefighting necrot certification. How do these activities synergize with the festive atmosphere?
DJP: Incorporating educational elements into a festival setting enriches the experience. It shows that entertainment and learning can go hand-in-hand. For instance, the firefighting certification not only raises awareness about safety, but it also empowers individuals with practical skills. This blend of fun and education makes the festival not just a day of leisure but a day of enrichment.
TNE: Absolutely! As the festival aims to attract both citizens and visitors, what would you say to someone considering attending for the first time?
DJP: I’d say come with an open heart and mind! Whether you want to enjoy performances, take part in activities, or simply explore the bustling atmosphere, there’s so much to experience. It’s a chance to connect with the local culture, meet new people, and create lasting memories.
TNE: Dr. Park, with the growing importance of cultural events in urban areas, what do you think the long-term impact of festivals like this can be on a city?
DJP: Festivals can have transformative effects! They promote local tourism, boost the economy, and enhance community pride. The social interactions can also spark creativity and innovation within the community, leading to collaborative projects long after the festival ends. Essentially, they lay the groundwork for sustained cultural engagement.
TNE: That’s insightful! Before we wrap up, any final thoughts on the 2024 Suncheon Daehak-ro Festival?
DJP: I encourage everyone to participate, whether you’re a Suncheon local or a visitor. Embrace the spirit of “Go Go Go”! It’s not just a festival; it’s an opportunity to be part of something bigger and to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of Suncheon.
TNE: Thank you, Dr. Park, for your valuable insights and enthusiasm. We’re excited about the festival and can’t wait to experience what Suncheon has to offer!
DJP: Thank you for the opportunity to share! See you at the festival!
