Suncheon City, Suncheon Tourism Activation Forum “Saving Local, Suncheon” Successfully Concluded

Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that the Suncheon Tourism Activation Forum “Saving Local, Suncheon” was successfully concluded at the Garden Workation Center on the 24th.

This event brought together not only Suncheon tourism industry officials, but also local content experts from all over the country and 70 participants interested in local tourism to discuss the future of Suncheon tourism that coexists with the region and is sustainable.

The event began with a keynote speech by Professor Minyoung Son of the Department of Wellness, Culture, Tourism, and Food at Cheongam University titled, “The Present and Future of Regional Tourism,” followed by presentations and general discussions.

The presentations were as follows: ▲Suncheon Beer CEO Kim Seung-cheol’s ‘Food and Drink Content Using Suncheon’s Resources’, ▲Slow Project CEO Kim Ga-hyeon’s ‘How We Could Increase Sales Every Year with Menus Made with Local Ingredients’, ▲Stay Duru CEO Lee Su-mi’s ‘A Space That Welcomes You with Warm Hospitality, a Space That Provides Various Values’, ▲Suncheon Tourism Management CEO Jeong Hee-ju’s ‘Creating Suncheon’s Resources into Travel Content’, ▲Suncheon Bay National Garden guide Kim Seon-hee’s ‘Attractive Guide’, and ▲Simda CEO Kim Ju-eun’s ‘Culture Created by Books, Tourism Created by Books’.

In particular, CEO Jeong Hee-ju drew attention by saying, “Sustainable tourism can only be realized when benefits and outcomes are widely distributed to the local community to ensure regional sustainability.”

Also, in the discussion that followed, ▲Professor Lee Hee-seung of the Department of Wellness, Culture, Tourism & Food at Cheongam University served as the moderator, ▲Puzzle Lab CEO Kwon Oh-sang, ▲Korean Peninsula Culture and Tourism Research Institute Director Kim Hyeong-woo, ▲Jeju Good Travel CEO Heo Sun-young, ▲Korea Tourism Startup Association Secretary-General Hong Ga-eun, and Discover Jeju CEO Kim Hyeong-woo attended to share their experiences in creating travel content that revitalizes the region and offered various suggestions for Suncheon tourism.

The discussion included various opinions, such as the need to develop content that utilizes the region’s original characteristics rather than just development, the need for core content through activity programs, and the importance of developing content tailored to rapidly changing trends. In particular, Director Kim Hyung-woo received sympathy from many participants when he said, “We need to encourage visitors to participate in the future value that Suncheon is pursuing.”

After the event, a networking session was held among participants to ensure that experts from all over the country could continue to take an interest in Suncheon City and the Suncheon tourism industry, and cooperative relationships were established for sustainable Suncheon tourism.

Suncheon Mayor Roh Gwan-gyu said, “I hope that the young people who will lead the region will listen to the experts and gain experience to build a solid foundation in order to create something new.”
