After being closed for five days, the broadband internet service was launched experimentally on the night of July 23, but the mobile internet is still closed. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has said that mobile internet services, which have been suspended due to violence surrounding the quota reform movement, may resume early next week.

BTRC chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed said on Friday, ‘Still testing is going on regarding the launch of mobile internet. If everything goes well, there is a plan to launch it on Sunday-Monday.’

It may be noted that during the ‘Complete Shutdown’ program called by the quota reform movement, conflict and violence spread across the country. Due to the situation, the mobile internet service was stopped on the night of July 17. After that, when the situation worsened, the broadband internet service was also stopped on Thursday night.

However, even though the broadband internet service is operational, customers complain that they are not getting the same speed as before. BTRC has directed International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators to enable Google’s cache servers to increase internet speed. Facebook and TikTok’s cash servers have been shut down for now. However, the regulatory body BTRC also said that YouTube will continue.

It is known that social media Facebook will be closed if the country’s laws and government directives are not followed. However, if Facebook guarantees to comply with the government’s instructions, then the government will decide on its launch.
