Sunjay Kapur Estate Row: Priya Kapur Alleges ₹21 Lakh Monthly Income for Mother-in-Law

Karisma KapoorS Ex-Husband’s Estate Dispute Escalates in Delhi High Court

The legal battle over the nearly Rs 30,000 crore estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur intensified this week as his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, forcefully countered allegations leveled by her mother-in-law, Rani Kapur, in the Delhi High Court. The proceedings on Wednesday saw Priya’s legal team systematically dismantle each claim made against her, asserting that accusations of financial impropriety are entirely unfounded.

Priya Kapur’s Lawyer Denies Asset transfers

Representing Priya, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar opened the hearing by firmly rejecting claims that any portion of Sunjay Kapur’s estate had been transferred abroad. “I have filed a detailed list of assets, and every transaction is in the list… No money has been moved abroad,” he told the court, characterizing the allegations as “baseless and reckless.” Nayar further emphasized that comprehensive financial records, corporate filings, and sworn documentation had already been submitted to the court, rendering any accusations of concealment untenable. He also disputed claims regarding Sunjay Kapur’s annual income, stating the reported figure of Rs 60 crore was inaccurate.

Claims of Instagram Fraud and Contradictory Emails

Responding to allegations that Priya concealed a valuable Rolex watch, Nayar revealed the claim stemmed from photos circulating on a fake Instagram account impersonating Sunjay Kapur. He pointed out that Rani Kapur followed the legitimate “sunjaykapur” account, indicating awareness that the images used as evidence were not genuine. “All assets known to Priya are already on record,” nayar stressed.

The court also examined documentation related to company decisions made shortly after Sunjay Kapur’s passing in June. According to Nayar, these actions were based on an email originating from Rani Kapur’s own account on June 16, 2025, a fact she later denied.

Dispute Over will template and Monthly Payments to Kapur’s mother

nayar further refuted the assertion that sunjay Kapur’s Will was drafted using Priya’s Will as a template. He argued that the structure of the Will closely mirrored Rani Kapur’s own 2024 Will, which had already been presented to the court.

Addressing accusations of concealing Sunjay’s true wealth, Nayar highlighted that Rani Kapur continues to receive significant financial support from AIPL, receiving Rs 21.5 lakh monthly to cover her personal expenses, “exactly as they were when Sunjay was alive.” He wryly remarked, “So much for step-daughterly treatment.”

Karisma Kapoor’s Children Challenge the Will

Following the defence’s arguments, Senior Advocate mahesh Jethmalani commenced arguments on behalf of Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan. They have formally challenged the validity of the Will and requested the court to prevent Priya from managing Sunjay Kapur’s assets. Jethmalani’s submissions are scheduled to continue on Thursday.

The Core of the Estate Dispute

The dispute centers around the estate of Sunjay Kapur, valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore. Kapur passed away on June 12 in the UK after collapsing during a polo match. samaira and Kiaan allege that Priya presented a fraudulent Will, while Rani Kapur accuses Priya of seizing control of the assets promptly following his death and failing to fully disclose the contents of the Will. Sunjay Kapur was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and the couple shares two children. He later married Priya Sachdev Kapur in 2017.
