Dubai: The MediaOne Super Cup got off to an exciting start with the hype of the Qatar World Cup. Eight district teams from Kerala clashed in the preliminary round of the tournament which started at the Club for People of Determination, Dubai Khizaise. Spectators from different districts of Kerala flocked to watch the matches on the first day itself. The semi-finals and finals will be played tonight.

Former Indian football team captains I.M. Vijayan and Jopaul Ancheri inaugurated the tournament. Director Prajesh Sen was the chief guest. IM said that this is a time of change in Indian football and the MediaOne tournament can spread excitement for the Qatar World Cup. Vijayan said.
Jopol Ancheri said that Malayali’s passion for football is an example for the world. This is a tournament that only includes Malayalis. He added that the tournament organized by MediaOne, which gives importance to sports, will benefit Indian football.

On the first day, the competitions were held at Nira Gallery. In the first match, Palakkad Panthers defeated Thrissur Tuskers by two goals. Palakkad’s Rizwan Man of the Match. In the second match Malappuram Heroes beat Kasaragod Riders 2-0. Kozhikode’s Bujair is the star of the game. In the third match, Kozhikode Kings beat Kannur Warriors by one unanswered goal. Mohammad Saleh of Kozhikode was Man of the Match.
