Super Mario Bros the movie has already been officially released and millions of people are rioting in theaters to give this beloved adaptation made by Illumination a chance. The specialized press has been mixed, while viewers have given it a better assessment.
However, not all of it is good news, especially when we have to talk about absences that deserved to be yes or yes. But we are not talking about a character in the film, but about crediting a figure who, although he will not be a well-known face, his work deserves total respect.
We talk about the composer Grant Kirkhope, creator of the Donkey Kong rap. The next is spoiler, so if you want to avoid details, stop reading. It turns out that Kirkhope’s composition appears at a certain point in the film.
The composer seems to have been hoping to see his name in the credits; however, he ended up getting the worst surprise. As he mentions on his Twitter account, his name does not appear anywhere. What’s more, the movie credits only mention that the rap of Donkey Kong was heard in DK64.
Grant Kirkhope’s sadness for Donkey Kong
On his Twitter account, the DK rap creator mentioned: “I really expected to see my name in the credits for the DK Rap, but, as expected, it’s not there…«. Several people responded to his post, empathizing with him, and also expressing regret that neither Nintendo nor Illumination valued Kirkhope’s work.
