Drivers in the country must be alert when processing mandatory SOAT insurance. The Financial Superintendence warned of an increase in complaints from drivers who were scammed when processing this essential requirement to be able to ride.
“Now the latest modality that unscrupulous people invented appears to be selling false SOAT insurance,” said José Camilo Torres Duque, director of Control of the Illegal Exercise of Financial Activity of the Superfinanciera.
According to the official, his entity has detected several pages on the Internet that, misleadingly, claim to sell the SOAT at discounts.

“People go to the page and find what I tell them, very good advertising, you believe you are dealing with an entity and they show you, and they send you the policies. Then, they send them the adulterated, false policies, and people believe that they acquired the insurance,” Torres said.
According to the Superfinanciera, this year there are already about 400 complaints from drivers who have been scammed when purchasing accident insurance.
The official warned that one of the most used modalities are pages on Facebook and Instagram that redirect to WhatsApp chats.
The Superfinanciera urged drivers who are victims to report the scam to the Prosecutor’s Office
“Complaint so we can identify the businesses that carry out this deception and so that the prosecuting entity can carry out their respective investigations,” Torres pointed out.
Recommendations to avoid scams
-Do not share documents or personal data through social networks or instant messaging services.
-Do not purchase policies when they ask you to deposit them into accounts of natural persons.
-Check with the insurance company, through an intermediary authorized by the insurer to issue SOAT policies.
-Consult the suitability of insurance intermediaries (natural and/or legal persons) to market insurance through the Single Consultation System for Insurance Intermediaries.
