L’association Generation Multiverse based in Saint-Denis-en-Val, southeast of Orléans, is only two years old, but its (super) powers are already immense. Frederick Boulage, the president, better known as Doctor Strange in the world of cosplay, has made it his mission to bring a little happiness to the sick children of Loiret.

Cosplay is a form of artistic performance where people, cosplayers, dress up and play the roles of characters from video games, comic books, films and television series. This is how Superman, Batman, Star Wars stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Sonic, Pikachu and many others regularly attack hospitals in groups. To try, for a moment, to offer respite and entertain children affected by serious illnesses.

“It’s sometimes difficult,” says Frederick Boulage, “like a few days ago during our visit to the Gustave Roussy hospital in the Paris region, where we learned of the death of a child the same morning. But we remain strong for the children, for the healthcare staff, and we ignore medical reality. Children give us incredible energy. »

“Doctor Strange” remembers a scene that deeply marked him during an outing to the Orléans hospital. A teenager, unable to speak for two weeks, suddenly reacted joyfully to the sight of Spiderman, by making a sound. “The father was very moved, he explained to us that his son had not said anything for days. Thanks to our intervention, he had just expressed himself when he saw us. It’s these kinds of moments that make us realize the positive impact we can have,” rejoices Frederick Boulage.

In addition to regular visits to hospitals, the association organizes charity events and an annual pop culture fair. These operations aim to raise funds but above all toys for children. Without the help of partners such as toy stores, distributions would be impossible.

Asked about his motivation, the 41-year-old man, himself a father of four children, explains: “I am lucky to have healthy children, this is not the case for everyone. . I feel like I’m doing something good.” Before calling for mobilization: “If you feel like a superhero, with or without a costume, join us! The more we are, the more we succeed and, together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.”

Next meeting Wednesday December 20 at Orléans University Hospital. Around twenty superheroes from all over responded favorably to the call of “Doctor Strange” for a distribution of gifts in the company – of course – of Santa Claus. Between 15 and 20 hospitalized children should benefit from this truly “multiverse” gathering, due to the diversity of the characters, like so many possible worlds.
